After...like, four months of me being predominantly inactive from Newgrounds, I'm coming back. Only to share news about the next instalment in the Tweety the Bird series, of course.
Tweety's Extravagant Adventure 3: Wrath of Crothic, codenamed Project Canary, is an ambitious side-scrolling platformer that aims to tie the lore of TEA1 and TEA2 together. It also contains some lore/story itself.
Excerpt from the TweetytheBird92 Neocities website (or at least an archive of it since as of writing Neocities is down):
In this exciting third entry in the TEA series, Tweety along with his two friends Puffy the Puffle and Daisy the Axolotl take a vacation! Little do they know, Crothic is up to no good... and this time, he's thought of a plan that's SURE to give him power over the Ferocious Three! Along the way, the Ferocious Three meet Tina the Sea Urchin; Lanolin the Sheep; Kylie the Crab; and Gruff the Goat, a group of survivors on the island the three crash-landed on that know about Crothic's plans... can the Ferocious Three stop Crothic before it's too late, and will both groups find out if Crothic's plans have been carried out since Tweety's quest to defeat Merlin?
Pretty heavy Genesis-era Sonic influence, mainly because this entry is inspired by Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD so you should expect to see a few similarities when the game releases.
As per the game itself so far, well...
Yeah. Pretty rough around the edges. There's no title screen, and about half of act 1 of Sunset Shores is complete...
...did I say act? Yeah. There are acts to stages now. This should hopefully increase the amount of stages/acts/whatever you wanna call them from 6 (TEA1) to 7 (TEA2; one is unused), to a whopping 17. This also means that if I wanna get this game done I'm gonna have to work my ass off.
Also, y'know TEA+? The TEA1 update with controller support and rudimentary continues? Yeah, well...
There's actual continues implemented this time around! Unlike TEA+'s infinite continues, you can only die so many times before you run out of continues to use. Yes, this does also mean lives have been added back to the TEA series. Unfortunately I haven't gotten around to adding controller support yet so...
Also, you can play as three separate characters, each with their own unique abilities.
Tweety the Bird, the star of the show, has his base moveset from TEA2. In fact, every character has his base moveset from TEA2. Unlike the other characters though, Tweety can curl up into a ball in the air and dash through the skies! You can only use this move three times in a row before you have to land back on the ground to recharge, though. It does give you a cool speed boost though... which doesn't work as well if you're in the water. When charging a dash, you can also choose which direction to go in. The longer you charge your dash, the faster you'll go. The dash's base speed also depends on how many dashes you've done previously without recharging them, e.g. if you did your first dash, it'd be considerably fast, but if you did your third dash it'll be kinda slow.
Puffy the Puffle, Tweety's girlfriend, can float in the air to reduce her falling speed by a considerable amount. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, as Puffy's float ability has a timer of ~6 seconds give or take, and to recharge you have to land on the ground so use her floats wisely.
Daisy the Axolotl doesn't really HAVE a special ability you can just press the ability key to use... in fact, it activates based on if she's in water or not. Daisy can swim in water, unlike Tweety and Puffy. She can also breathe in water, which saves you from the hassle of drowning (yes, drowning is also a thing in this game). When in water, Daisy has full 8-directional movement.
Tweety, Puffy and Daisy also have different speeds, weights, friction, etc. Here's a table to visualise this, one star being the lowest of something and three stars being the highest:
That's effectively it for now. But...
